In Memory of Kathryn Yarbrough Smalls

Kathryn Yarbrough Smalls, age 85 of Loudon, passed away peacefully at her home, Sunday, July 1, 2018. Kathryn was born in Savannah, GA to the late Thomas L. and Eileen (McDonald) Yarbrough. She grew up in Charleston, SC and was drawn to the charisma of the unique southern town. While there, she loved modeling the newest fashions for the garment industry and enjoyed a career in finance serving the automotive industry until she married her life partner Andy, June 29, 1957. Together they enjoyed a love story that spanned 61 years. They were devoted to each other and had many adventures together, living and working in big cities and small towns. Kathryn and Andy had three children; she adored them and was a devoted mother as well. After the children were raised she launched a career in the cosmetic and fragrance industry in the Knoxville area. The Smalls’ were members of St. James Episcopal Church in Knoxville. These last years were spent calling Loudon their home, even though Kathryn stayed connected to her city of Charleston. She was a true southern lady, beautiful inside and out. She always greeted you with a warm smile and always treated others with kindness. When asked, Andy said “she possessed the innocence of a new born child and the beauty of a Southern Belle” If you were speaking to Kathryn, she would tell you that she was so proud to be the wife of “Marshal Andy”. In addition to her parents, Kathryn was preceded in death by her son, Thomas Scott Smalls; her daughter, Lucy Ann “Luann” Smalls and brother, Tommy Yarbrough. She is survived by her beloved husband, Andrew J. Smalls and beloved and devoted son, Drew J. Smalls, both of Loudon; brother in-law and wife, Joe and Betty Smalls, Conway, SC and a multitude of friends. Services honoring and remembering Kathryn Smalls will be held 5:00 PM Sunday, July 8th, McGill Click Chapel, with Rev. Jack Pennington officiating. Memorial Contributions may be directed to East Tennessee Public Television, 1611 E. Magnolia Ave. Knoxville, TN 37917.
